ALAR BASE REDUCTION

Alar base reduction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves reducing the size of the nostrils or the alar base. It is also known as alarplasty or nostril reduction surgery. The procedure is performed to improve the appearance of the nose, balance facial proportions, and address breathing problems.

During the procedure, an incision is made at the base of the nostrils, and excess tissue is removed. The size of the nostrils is reduced, and the incisions are closed with sutures. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, and patients can usually return home the same day.

Alar base reduction, also known as alarplasty or nostril reduction, is a surgical procedure to reduce the size and width of the nostrils. It is typically performed on people who have large or flared nostrils that they are self-conscious about. Alar base reduction can also be performed as part of a rhinoplasty (nose job) to improve the overall appearance of the nose.

There are two main techniques for alar base reduction:

Alar wedge excision: This is the most common technique. A small wedge of skin is removed from the alar base, usually in the crease where the nose meets the cheek. This reduces the width of the nostrils and can also help to reduce flaring.

Nostril sill excision: This technique involves removing a small amount of tissue from the bottom of the nostrils. This can help to reduce the size of the nostrils and make them appear more defined.

Alar base reduction is often performed in conjunction with other rhinoplasty procedures, such as tip refinement or bridge augmentation. It is important to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon to perform the procedure to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications.
